a. Does the game have any real purpose? Yes it does. We have been doing a Kiwiana theme in Social Studies so we want to do a Kiwiana theme on scratch to educate people about Kiwiana but make it fun at the same time.
b. Are there clear instructions for a player? We have made the instructions really clear and simple to follow.
c. Are there mulitple levels/scenes? Yes we are going to make 5 different levels in 5 different settings.
d. Are the levels appropriate - ie do they get harder? Yes they will get harder as you progress through the game.
e. Are the controls easy to use? They should be. They are the left key, the right key and then the space bar.
f. Have you made any of your own characters or backgrounds? We are going to make our own levels and characters so the whole thing will be created by us.
g. Have you used any recorded sound effects? We will maybe record some of our own but use a song. We might use the National Anthem because our theme is Kiwiana.
h. Is it challenging for the age group? Maybe but it won’t be too complicated for our age group. It will hopefully be fun. Diary
Monday 12th October 12, 2009 – Period 3: In period three today I learnt how to use cool text. I used it to make a heading in my wiki space. I also edited some levels from our scratch project. I also emailed my work to Aimee so incase my laptop breaks, Aimee has a copy on hers. I also backed it up on a memory stick. I also started writing this diary to update Mrs. Beadle. In our game I also made the kiwi look like its walking. Now I just have to get the controls right.
Period 4: This lesson I just worked on the game trying to get the kiwi to move. This was successful. Now we have to make it not touch the blue.
Wednesday 14th October 15, 2009 –
Lunch time: This lunch, I and my partner Aimee went to the library to try and get some of our project done.We got the kiwi moving so now we have to make it go back to the start when it touches the blue and go to the next level when it touches the pink.
Thursday 13th October 15, 2009 –
Period 2: Since Aimee was at a music lesson, I had to continue the project by myself. I tried to make some more levels and make them costumes.
Tuesday 20th October - Today we tried to get the kiwi to try and change levels. This was unsuccessful.
Wednesday 21st october - Today we recieved a fix for our game from Mrs Beadle. Now the kiwi is changing level when it hits the pink. We are currently just making kiwiana objects so that the theme is more kiwiana.
Tuesday 27th October - Today we tried to add sound effects to the game. This worked. We also got clearer pictures for the changing levels so people can identify them. Now our game is basically complete and we are just touching it up.
Thursday 29th October - We completed our game. Yay!!!
Evaluation
Yes we did do a project plan. We stayed on track with our Kiwiana game. We did stick with the project plan and alson added to it by putting music and sound in it. We did however have some errors. We spent about 4 periods trying to get the kiwi to change levels. We even went into the library at lunch to try and get it to work. We eventually got it moving because we sent our problem to Mrs Beadle. This was the only help we had. We also had a minor problem with the kiwi moving but Ainmee and I overcome this by looking at a tutorial together. We also did a storyboard of our 5 levels. We did some minor changes and made the levels better by making the images harder to identify what country they came from. Everything is working but we did have a problem getting a sound effect to play. We then realised there was a website giving us a virus so we shut it down and then it worked. The fun parts of the project was designing the levels and of course playing the game once we had finished.
I am very happy with our final result. It is a good game and its fun. It is challenging to find the kiwiana object. If i could do it again I would do it exactly the same appart from I might have made some of the images clearer.
